Every piece of art carries a unique story within its essence. At Yashi Designs, that story begins with our founder and creative force, Bharti Trivedi — a California-based fiber artist whose work blends bold sculptural forms with minimalist elegance. Her wall hangings and sculptures have found homes in both residential and commercial spaces across the globe, reflecting a timeless dialogue between nature, craft, and design.
In this feature, we invite you to step behind the knots and textures to discover Bharti’s journey — her inspirations, her design philosophy, and tips on how to thoughtfully select artwork that brings depth and meaning into your home.
Tell Us a Little Bit About Yourself
Hi, I’m Bharti! I’ve always had a passion for art and design, and in 2018 I took the leap to pursue my dream of becoming a full-time fiber artist. I live in sunny California, near the vibrant art hub of San Francisco, where I balance the calm of studio life with the inspiration I gather outdoors.
When I’m not knotting rope or carving textures into wood, you’ll often find me at the beach at sunset, listening to the waves — a sound that often translates into the rhythmic flow of my artworks. I love cruising along the Bay Area’s coastal drives and exploring Makers Markets in San Jose, where I connect with local artisans and their craft. These experiences continuously remind me of the importance of handmade, meaningful art in daily life.
Where Do You Find Your Inspiration?
My inspiration comes from nature, human emotions, and the quiet beauty of organic forms. The earthy desert landscapes of Arizona, the lush greenery of California, and the intricate patterns and textures from my roots in India all find their way into my work. Time spent outdoors is both grounding and revitalizing, and it directly fuels my creativity.
These influences often surface in my sculptures and collections — whether it’s the fluidity of Whimsical Waves, the strength of the Forever Love Knot, or the architectural presence of commissioned projects. Each piece reflects these textures, stories, and journeys, transformed into tactile art meant to live beautifully in modern interiors.
Knots symbolize resilience and connection, ropes embody journeys and stories, and wood carries memory and grounding. I love transforming such simple materials into works that feel sculptural, architectural, and timeless.

What is the story behind Yashi Designs?
The name Yashi comes from a combination of my daughters’ names, Aarushi and Aadhya. Starting this venture after becoming a mother felt powerful — it was my way of reconnecting to myself, embracing creativity, and honoring the strength of womanhood. I established Yashi Designs in 2018 to reflect my true passion, and since then I’ve created artworks for clients across the globe — from residential spaces to large-scale hotel projects.
How would you describe your design style?
My artistic style sits at the intersection of contemporary and rustic, where textures and organic forms take center stage. I lean toward a minimalist, textural, and organic approach, blending modern design with the natural imperfections of sustainable materials. Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, my work embraces balance — strength and softness, tension and release, simplicity and depth.
What kind of projects do you take on?
I create:
-
Custom wall sculptures and installations for hospitality projects
-
Residential artworks — from large-scale pieces to intimate table sculptures.
Each project is a collaboration, and I love tailoring artwork to reflect the story of a space.
Where has your work been featured?
My work has been featured in multiple publications, including Milieu Magazine’s Fall 2024 issue, where I was honored as one of the “Forward Thinkers” by David Masello.
These features are a reminder that sustainable, handcrafted art continues to resonate in modern interiors.
What do you hope people feel when they experience your art?
I create with intention, but I believe the truest meaning of my work unfolds in the eyes of the viewer. More than what I feel, I’m always curious to know what others see and experience in it. My hope is simply that my art offers a pause — a quiet moment of reflection, grounding, or connection. Whether it’s a rope sculpture casting shifting shadows or a piece adding texture to a corner of someone’s home, I want the work to feel alive in their space, sparking feelings that are uniquely their own.
Thank you for joining me in this journey behind the work — may it inspire you to see art not only as something you live with, but something that lives with you.
At Yashi Designs, we believe each artwork is more than an object — it’s a dialogue. We invite you to explore our collections and discover pieces that resonate with your own story.
Tips for Choosing Art for Your Home
Choosing art is part instinct, part discovery — but above all, it should feel personal. The right artwork can anchor a space, set a mood, or simply bring quiet joy every time you see it. Here are a few guiding ideas I often share with collectors:
1. Let Art Lead the Design
Art has the power to set the tone of a room. Oversized fiber art wall hangings or custom wall sculptures make bold statements, while smaller, sculptural works can introduce texture and depth without overwhelming. If you’re drawn to soft, neutral walls and an organic-modern vibe, consider letting art be your starting point when designing a room.
2. Match Mood to Space
The artwork can be an inspiration for color, but even more than that, mood. If it's a calm, relaxing space, think about fiber art in neutral earthy tones or peachy hues. If it's a social space or a room for entertaining, go for something bold, play around with sizes, choose a set of artworks like mixed leaves to add colors and personality with a touch of natural materials, or choose an art that has a story to tell.
Think about how you want a room to feel. In calm spaces, earthy-toned fiber art or sculptures in soft rope create serenity. In lively gathering spaces, bold wall pieces or a series of works can add energy and personality.
3. Layer with Smaller Sculptures
Not all art has to live on the walls. Table sculptures — like my Love Knot, Infinity Knot, or small artwork like Holding On — bring intimacy and warmth to a cozy corner, entry table, reading nook or bedrooms. These tactile pieces invite touch, spark conversation, and add a grounding presence in everyday spaces.
4. Play with Placement
Hallways, stairwells, and transitional spaces come alive when art is thoughtfully placed. A tall vertical rope sculpture- The Key-hole, can transform an otherwise empty stairwell wall, while a series of smaller works like Aarya or The Crest can guide you through a hallway with rhythm and flow. Adding modern rope art to transitional spaces blurs the line between function and beauty.
5. Choose What Moves You
Most importantly, listen to your instincts. A piece should make you pause, reflect, or smile — that’s when it belongs in your home. Investing in commissioned artwork or choosing a handcrafted fiber piece ensures your art feels personal and timeless.
5. Do Due Diligence
Make sure you check that the artwork you're investing in is authentic, the paperwork, provenance, and dating of the work are immaculate.
Above all, don’t overthink. Mix, match, move pieces around, and let your home evolve with your art.
