My Story

I’m Bharti, a sculptural fiber artist and founder of Yashi Designs. My name, given by a spiritual guide, means “goddess of art” in Sanskrit—a name that quietly guided my journey long before I called myself an artist.I grew up in India, shaped by both my parents—my mother brought beauty to everyday life with her creative touch, while my father, a hands-on problem-solver, taught me resilience and hands-on skills. Their balance of artistry and technical grit lives on in my work today.

Before becoming a full-time artist, I worked as a cybersecurity engineer in a leading tech company for five years. I thrived in the dynamic pace of the tech industry and led corporate training and technical seminars across major firms in India.

After moving to Northern California, motherhood changed me—slowing me down and bringing me closer to myself. It was during this shift that Yashi Designs was born, named after my daughters, whose names represent the love and transformation that fuel my work. Since 2018, it has grown into a studio practice serving homes, hotels, and collectors worldwide—each piece a quiet story of strength, stillness, and connection.

Artist Statement

I explore the expressive potential of humble fibers—jute, and cotton —transforming them into tactile sculptures that resonate with emotion, memory, and form. My practice bridges traditional macramé techniques and contemporary textile methods to produce works that feel grounded yet fluid, intimate yet expansive.

Sustainability is foundational to my process: I work with plant-based and upcycled materials, honoring the natural world through every knot and curve. Each piece emerges through a careful balance of spontaneity and control, shaped by a quiet dialogue between structure and flow.

Rooted in minimalism and inspired by the organic rhythms of nature, my work distills complexity into refined forms. Whether displayed in a private residence, a luxury hotel lobby, or a quiet corner of a public space, my art invites quiet reflection and connection.

STUDIO PRACTICE & PROCESS

MATERIALS

I work primarily with natural materials like jute and cotton, that speak to simplicity, strength, and sustainability. Each carries a tactile memory of nature and daily life, grounding my sculptures in both earthiness and elegance.

The Making Process

Every sculpture begins with my hands. I knot, twist, suspend, and shape fibers through repetitive, meditative motion. My process is slow and intentional—allowing the material to lead, then gently shaping it toward balance and form.

From Studio to Space

My commissioned works are site-responsive—created in dialogue with designers, collectors, and spaces. From hotel lobbies to intimate interiors, I aim to create sculptural moments that feel rooted, expansive, and alive.

Commissions

I collaborate with art consultants, designers, and collectors to create sculptural fiber works that respond to space, mood, and materiality. Whether it’s a large-scale lobby installation or an intimate wall piece, each commission is tailored through thoughtful dialogue and material exploration.

A limited number of commissions are available each year, thoughtfully crafted to resonate with the space and the client’s vision. The process begins with a conversation—gathering dimensions, preferred color palette, budget, and past works that speak to you.

From there, I develop a few directional sketches or concepts, exploring materiality and composition in alignment with the space. Once the direction is approved, a 50% deposit secures your place in my studio schedule.

As I create, I remain in dialogue with you—sharing updates or material samples if needed. When complete, I’ll share final photos before the piece journeys to its new home.
